Watford secured a crucial late point in their Premier League survival campaign, with Joao Pedro’s headed equalize keeping them out of the bottom three and denying Newcastle a much-needed victory.

After Allan Saint-spectacular Maximin’s second-half goal, Eddie Howe’s team appeared to be on track for only their second victory of the season.

But, after Josh King and Pedro squandered chances for Claudio Ranieri’s side, who were always dangerous on the counter, the Brazilian forward soared above Jamaal Lascelles to nod in Kiko Femenia’s cross and send Watford supporters wild.

The goal stunned the majority of St James’ Park, prompting Howe to slam a water bottle to the ground in disgust as they squandered a chance to climb out of the relegation zone for the first time in 106 days.

The Hornets remained in 17th place as a result of the draw, which was a reward for the visitors and Pedro, who consistently posed a threat. Newcastle remained in 19th place, but Burnley dropped to the bottom of the table, thanks to Norwich’s win over Everton.
