Aston Villa are in pole position to sign Lucas Digne, who has had a public spat with Everton manager Rafael Benitez and is expected to leave the club this month. Personal terms between the two parties are not expected to be an issue.
Aston Villa are in early talks with Everton to sign Lucas Digne, with the left-back reportedly preferring a transfer to Steven Gerrard’s side.
Digne’s acquisition would be a triumph for Villa, as they appear to have beaten off interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Newcastle, and West Ham for his services.
There isn’t likely to be any friction between Villa and Digne on a personal level. Everton and the Midlands club have yet to agree on a cost, but it is expected to be in the region of £20-25 million.
After a public spat with Everton manager Rafael Benitez over the team’s tactics, Digne is poised to leave this month.
Digne, who has 43 caps for France, asked to leave the club this week, according to Benitez. He hasn’t played since a 4-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on December 1.
