Philippe Coutinho hailed his move to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 as “a dream.” However, the Brazilian forward’s subsequent four years have largely been a nightmare.
With a stellar Premier League stint under his belt and a British record price tag to show for it, Coutinho became a Barca misfit. He was bought to replace Neymar, who was compared to Lionel Messi.
The 29-year-old joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 season on Friday, almost four years after leaving England.
It brings him back to the stage where he shined brightest, reunites him with an old friend in Steven Gerrard, and allows him to rediscover his touch.
