Despite the ‘pressure’ and ‘adversity’ of his interview controversy, Thomas Tuchel praised Romelu Lukaku for impressing in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Lukaku, 28, was making his first appearance for Chelsea since last week, when he expressed his dissatisfaction with the club and flirted with previous club Inter Milan in an explosive interview with Sky Italy.

Tuchel benched the Belgium striker for Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool at Anfield and fined him, but he was reinstated in the starting lineup for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Spurs.

‘I’m absolutely happy with (Lukaku’s) performance, I like how he played, strong, huge commitment in defensive work,’ said Tuchel.

‘He was not affected by it, he was relaxed and fine with situation, mentally he has moved on.
‘He was always dangerous, always used his body, and was always involved in dangerous situations.
