It’s a shambles, and it doesn’t bode good for anyone associated with Manchester United. Certainly not the participants. Not the Old Trafford hierarchy, and certainly not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ralf Rangnick isn’t one of them.

Luke Shaw was chipping away at the mask that has collapsed since Solskjaer left in November when he commented about a lack of unity in the aftermath of Monday’s dismal defeat by Wolves.

The Norwegian was well-liked, but the idea that he was some sort of Pied Piper who brought United back into the light following Jose Mourinho’s dark days, leaving a better club for his successor, can now be disregarded.

Players including Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, Donny van de Beek, Dean Henderson, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard were looking to go as soon as the January transfer market opened.

They’re part of a small number of players that don’t understand why they haven’t gotten more playing time while the squad has been so awful. Solskjaer is accused of exacerbating the situation by putting his arm around their shoulders and promising things he couldn’t keep. Players enjoy it when they are told the truth.
