Lukaku: Striker ‘Undermined’ Boss Thomas Tuchel Publicly, Says Chris Sutton

Chris Sutton, a former Blues striker, believes Romelu Lukaku has let Chelsea down and undermined manager Thomas Tuchel.

After an interview surfaced in which he expressed his dissatisfaction with his progress since joining Chelsea this summer, the Belgium striker was omitted from Chelsea’s team for their 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

On Monday, he returned to training. “What was the point of him doing the interview and stirring up trouble in the locker room?” On BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton stated. Lukaku, 28, returned to Chelsea in August after a club-record £97.5 million transfer from Inter Milan, where he had previously played.

He said he was “not satisfied with the scenario” of being a bit-part player in an interview with Sky Sports Italia recorded three weeks ago but only shown on New Year’s Eve, and that he would like to play for Inter again.

Lukaku’s scoring had dried up after a strong start to the season, with injuries and Covid obstructing his progress, but after speaking with Tuchel, he had scored twice in his last two Premier League games.

However, the German dropped him as a result of the “noise” created by the Italian interview in the club.

“What was his motive? This isn’t a 19-year-old, this is a guy who has been around. I thought he would be the difference this season at Chelsea.
