After Senegal accused Watford of refusing to release winger Ismaila Sarr for the Africa Cup of Nations, the club has confirmed that he is injured.
Since November, the 23-year-old has been out due to knee ligament injuries. The competition begins on January 9th, and Sarr has been named to Senegal’s roster.
The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) said in a statement that the Premier League club had “barred” Sarr from joining after he “indicated his desire” to play.
“The FSF wishes to convey its strong condemnation of Watford’s disrespectful, harmful, and discriminatory behavior in attempting to prevent a player from representing his country,” the Federation said.
“Africa, its football and its footballers deserve the same respect as that accorded to other continents, confederations and players.”
