Late Goal Gives City Win At Arsenal In An Incident-Packed Encounter

Manchester City beat 10-man Arsenal in a tense match to go 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League. Rodri scored a stoppage-time winner.

Arsenal appeared to have held out for a point until Rodri guided in a loose ball in the 93rd minute to give City their 11th consecutive league victory in a game that featured two big VAR issues and an avoidable red card for Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Early on at Emirates Stadium, the hosts were the superior side, and Bukayo Saka swept in a deserved opening to complete off a superb play before the Gunners self-destructed.

After consulting the pitchside monitor, referee Stuart Attwell overturned his earlier judgement and awarded a penalty to Riyad Mahrez after Bernardo Silva was hauled down by Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal felt disgruntled by the decision after their own penalty appeals in the first half were turned down after a lengthy VAR review for Ederson’s challenge on Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal are fourth in the table, with manager Mikel Arteta unable to watch from home after a positive Covid-19 test.
