Emma Raducanu, the US Open champion, has pulled out of the first WTA competition of the season in Melbourne.
After getting Covid-19 in Abu Dhabi before Christmas, the 19-year-old British man was recently released from isolation.
Raducanu was scheduled to compete in the Melbourne Summer Set, a warm-up event for the Australian Open, from January 3 to 9.
She’ll likely play in Sydney in the week leading up to the Australian Open, which begins on January 17th.
“Having just returned from seclusion, competing in the first Melbourne event this week is too soon for me,” Raducanu remarked.
In the New Year Honours list, the British number one and world number 19 received an MBE.
