Arsenal 1-2 Man City: VAR Inconsistency Criticised By Albert Stuivenberg & Aaron Ramsdale

While Manchester City resumed their winning ways in 2022, the same familiar discussion over VAR raged on in the opening game of the new year.

After Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to league leaders City on Saturday, assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale urged for more consistency in referees using the pitchside monitor.

After Martin Odegaard went down in a challenge with City goalkeeper Ederson in the first half, the hosts felt referee Stuart Attwell should have looked at the monitor.

A check was conducted, but Attwell was not instructed to view the screen because VAR could not be certain that Ederson had not touched the ball.
