Mbappe & Lewandowski Voice Concerns Over A Biennial World Cup

Kylian Mbappe of France and Robert Lewandowski of Poland have expressed reservations about staging a World Cup every two years.

As part of a new calendar, Fifa has proposed having the World Cup every two years rather than every four years.

A biannual World Cup, the governing body informed delegates at a conference, would produce more than £3.3 billion in additional revenue during a four-year cycle.

The plans have been challenged by Uefa, Europe’s main leagues, and Conmebol, the governing body of South American football.

The African governing body, Caf, has endorsed the initiative.

“We play over 60 games in a year. You have Euros, the World Cup, now the Nations League – so many competitions. We are happy to play but when it’s too much, it’s too much. We have to recover, we have to stay relaxed.
