The Covid-19 situation at Aston Villa is’very unexpected and difficult to cope with,’ according to manager Steven Gerrard.

The home Premier League match between Villa and Burnley was postponed on Saturday, but Gerrard is optimistic that the match against Chelsea on Boxing Day will go ahead.

‘I don’t really know because it changes every hour, every day,’ Gerrard remarked when questioned about the Covid issue at Villa Park. It is, as you are aware, extremely unpredictable.

‘We’re testing every day, lateral flow and PCR. It’s changed in the last hour. I don’t really know what position we’re going to be in come the game.

‘At the moment we’ve got enough to play and I expect the game to go ahead. I hope it goes ahead. It’s a game we’re very much looking forward to. ‘But in terms of the Covid picture and the situation here at Villa, it’s changing on a daily basis, so it’s very unpredictable and hard to cope.’

The game against Burnley was postponed because Villa lacked the required 14 players, and Gerrard called the scenario a “horror.”
