Willian Reveals He Eyed An Arsenal Exit After Just Three Months In North London

Willian admitted that the negative reception he received from Arsenal fans after his move from Chelsea influenced his decision to leave, and that he was looking for a way out barely three months after arriving in north London.

After the Blues refused to grant him a three-year contract, the winger ended his Chelsea contract and joined Mikel Arteta’s side in the summer of 2020, preferring to stay in London.

His £240,000-a-week move backfired miserably, as he only made 16 Premier League games before his contract was canceled in the summer to allow him to return to Corinthians in Brazil.

Willian took a lot of the blame for the club’s eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season, and he revealed that the hate messages on social media weighed on his mind.

‘I received a lot of messages on social media from them, but also because I came from Chelsea I think if I came from another club maybe the fans would be better.

‘But because I come from Chelsea and I didn’t perform well and because of them, I think about that and I have to go.’
