Manchester United are keen to keep Edinson Cavani at Old Trafford next month, despite Barcelona’s interest in the Uruguayan striker.
In the January transfer window, Cavani has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp to replace Sergio Aguero, who was forced to retire from football this week due to an abnormal heartbeat.
Barca is also interested in Manchester City’s Ferran Torres, who is valued at roughly £42 million.
Cavani has made just three starts for United this season after signing a new 12-month deal in the summer due to a tendon ailment in his leg and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo as the club’s first-choice striker.
Although there has been speculation in Spain that the 34-year-old would be interested in joining Barcelona, it is known that United would prefer him to finish the remaining six months of his contract.
The club’s latest Covid outbreak, which left only seven players available for Saturday’s postponed game against Brighton, highlights the need for a large squad as the Premier League continues to battle the pandemic.
United will reopen first-team operations at their Carrington training camp on Tuesday, following a closure on Thursday to combat the spread of sickness.
