After Phil Foden and Jack Grealish were sacked on Sunday, Pep Guardiola issued a warning to Manchester City’s players that bad behavior will not be allowed.
Following suspected infractions in midweek, the City boss sat both players on the bench during the 4-0 win over Newcastle.
Guardiola, according to Sportsmail, gave his players time to relax after their seven-goal thumping of Leeds United last Tuesday.
When Grealish and Foden reported for a customary rehabilitation session at the club’s training camp on Wednesday, though, they were declared unfit.
Guardiola was in Barcelona that day for Sergio Aguero’s retirement announcement, but the two did not impress members of his staff.
The Catalan made no attempt to hide the fact that off-field concerns had influenced the team selected to defeat Newcastle and increase City’s Premier League advantage to three points.
