Covid-19-hit Chelsea were held to a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, putting them farther behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League title chase.

The visitors’ request to postpone the match due to a coronavirus outbreak was denied on Sunday morning, with manager Thomas Tuchel expressing his displeasure with the decision.

As a result, just four outfield players were named on the Blues’ bench at Molineux. The first XI remained competitive, but they struggled to create as they were held to a second consecutive stalemate.

Wolves had the better of the first half, but chances were few and far between in the foggy conditions. Daniel Podence had an early goal ruled out for offside.

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy comfortably saved Leander Dendoncker’s header just before halftime, while Wolves’ Jose Sa did well to deny Christian Pulisic from close range late on.

The result, combined with Manchester City’s 4-0 win against Newcastle on Sunday, puts Chelsea six points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

Wolves, on the other hand, remain in eighth position but are now level on points with seventh-placed Tottenham.
