Ramsey Inspires Villa To Win At Norwich

Jacob Ramsey said he hopes to emulate Steven Gerrard in becoming “one of the best goalscoring midfielders” after a superb solo performance helped Aston Villa win 2-0 against Norwich.

The 20-year-old broke the deadlock at Carrow Road by running at the Canaries defense from within his own half and smashing the ball past Tim Krul.

To complete the score and increase Norwich’s relegation fears, Ollie Watkins sidefooted home Carney Chukwuemeka’s low pass.

“I’ve been watching clips of the gaffer,” Ramsey told BT Sport. “He was one of the best goalscoring midfielders and that’s what I want to be.

“I saw Ollie [Watkins] knock it off, there was no-one there, so I thought ‘why not?'”

Gerrard has now won four of his six games as Villa boss since replacing Dean Smith – now in charge at Norwich – last month.

And the former England captain was thrilled with Ramsey’s effort.

“As a midfielder, you can only applaud that kind of play,” Gerrard said. “To then unleash a shot like that – it should be in the running for goal of the month.”
