Real Madrid Beat Inter To Finish Top Of Their Group

13-time winners is a record. Real Madrid came out on top of Champions League Group D with a win over Inter Milan, who finished second.

Inter would have jumped ahead of their opponents if they had won in Spain, but they failed to capitalize on their chances. Ivan Perisic flicked a header against the post after Lautaro Martinez volleyed over from close range. Edin Dzeko headed straight at Thibaut Courtois.

Real’s Toni Kroos scored the first goal, and Marco Asensio added the second. Kroos, a former Germany international midfielder, scored La Liga’s 1,000th goal in the European Cup, making them the first club to do it.

Substitute Asensio’s score was a masterpiece, taking up the ball on the edge of the box and stroking a finish into the top corner just a minute after coming on.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team had a chance to extend their lead before the break, but Rodrygo struck the foot of the post and then slammed into the side-netting from a good position.

Inter were chasing the game in the second half but were unable to score, with midfielder Nicolo Barella being sent off shortly after the hour mark for a rash tackle on defender Eder Militao.
