Lucas Digne’s Everton career is in jeopardy after he was left out of the 18-man squad for the win over Arsenal due to a spat with manager Rafa Benitez.
When the Toffees came back to beat the Gunners 2-1 on Monday night, the French left-back was nowhere to be seen, with Ben Godfrey being moved out of position to fill the void left by Digne.
Digne’s absence was owing to an altercation he had with Benitez, according to The Athletic, forcing the Everton manager to discipline the squad’s only-recognised left-back before of their vital clash at Goodison Park.
Digne and Benitez haven’t seen eye to eye since the Spaniard took over at Everton, according to The Athletic, with the former Barcelona star criticising his manager with ‘increasing regularity’. With tensions high and the two still at odds, Digne’s time on Merseyside might be coming to an end.
Despite the fact that the former Barcelona star only signed a new long-term contract with the club less than a year ago, he could potentially push for a January exit if the wounds do not heal swiftly.
