Ajax Chief Executive Edwin Van Der Sar Welcomes ManU’s Interest In Boss Erik

Manchester United’s interest in Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has been welcomed by Ajax boss Edwin van der Sar, who believes it proves the Eredivisie club is ‘doing something right.’

Following interim coach Ralf Rangnick’s planned six-month stay, Sportsmail reported last month that highly-rated coach Ten Hag was on United’s shortlist to become their permanent manager next summer.

Ten Hag had turned down an offer from Tottenham earlier this year and has stated that he will not ‘seek’ a major position due to his contract expiring in 2023 – and Van der Sar sees the speculation as a plus.

‘This means that we are doing something well,’ ex-United goal keeper Van der Sar told Dutch channel RTL 7 while addressing speculation surrounding Ten Hag’s links with the Red Devils.

‘It’s the same with the players. When we perform well, the interest comes. ‘If there is interest in our players or coach… we’ve all been blown away in the past. So be it, we have to make sure we’re ready by then, that the lists are filled in.’

Ajax qualified for the Champions League knockout round with ease, winning all six of their group games, and Ten Hag guided Ajax to the semi-finals in 2019.
