Talking Points From Bellator 272 As Petis Shows Off Heart Of A Champion

On Friday night, Sergio Pettis and Kyoji Horiguchi headlined a night to remember, bringing the curtain down on a fantastic year for Bellator.

With a last-second knockout, Pettis retained his bantamweight title, but Bellator 272 provided plenty of other talking points, including the announcement of the next grand prix. Five things we learned at Bellator 272 are broken down by BBC Sport.

As Bellator announcer Josh Thomson put it, Pettis’ corner “fired a fire under his ass” before the fourth round. The spinning back fist was set up by a missing head kick in one of the top knockouts of the year.

Pettis may have been in a lot of difficulty during the fight, but he never gave up and kept looking for opportunities. Before the bout, he told BBC Sport that he had learnt to “trust himself” in the ring, and the 28-year-old utilized every ounce of that faith to retain the faith until he pulled off a surprising victory.
