Conte’s Unbeaten League Start Continues As Spurs Beat Brentford 2-Nill
Tottenham’s perfect league start under Antonio Conte continued with a comfortable win over Brentford, keeping them in touch with the top four. They took the lead thanks to an own goal from right winger Sergi Canos in the 12th minute, before Son Heung-min finished off a brilliant counter-attack in the second half.
After a short corner, a Son dinked cross was met by Pontus Jansson’s clearing header, which ricocheted off Ben Davies, into Canos, and into the roof of the net.
Spurs continued to press for additional goals, with Son stopped from close range in the first half and Harry Kane’s one-on-one shot saved by Alvaro Fernandez after the break.
When Son pounced onto Sergio Reguilon’s cross and tapped home from six yards, he scored the goal that his effort and Spurs’ show merited.
Brentford put up a poor performance, with Ivan Toney’s feeble left-footed effort being their lone shot on target. Tottenham moves up to sixth place, two points behind fourth-placed West Ham, while Brentford drops to 12th.
