Palmeiras defeated Flamengo in extra time at the Estadio Centenario in Uruguay to retain their Copa Libertadores title. Substitute Deyverson took advantage of Andreas Pereira’s blunder to score the game-winning goal five minutes into extra time.

In the second half, Gabriel Barbosa scored at the near post for 2019 winners Flamengo in Montevideo, which hosted the first World Cup final. It came after Palmeiras’ Raphael Veiga scored the game’s first goal.

For the reigning champions, who have now won the championship three times, Veiga side-footed into the bottom corner. Barbosa’s equalizer came with 18 minutes remaining, after goalie Weverton had already denied former Chelsea and Arsenal defender David Luiz.

The game went to extra time as a result of Pereira’s bad touch on Luiz’s pass, which allowed Deyverson to run through and make no mistake.

After the score, Palmeiras had to deal with a lot of pressure, but they held on to defend their title and celebrate jubilantly with their fans who had traveled all the way from Sao Paulo.
