Aston Villa’s Much-Coveted Carney Chukwuemeka Will Not Sign New Deal

Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka would not sign a new contract, raising concerns among England’s top teams, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool. The 18-year-old midfielder, who is regarded as one of England’s brightest prospects, has opted to leave Villa after becoming disappointed with his lack of first-team opportunities.

Chukwuemeka made his Premier League debut as a 17-year-old last season, coming on as an 89th-minute replacement in a match against Tottenham Hotspur. Then, in the 73rd minute of the final game against Chelsea, he came on.

He has started twice this season, once in the Carabao Cup and once in the league against Brentford. Villa believe they have provided a road to a player who has a slew of admirers in mainland Europe, notably Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, after he made another substitute cameo against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Chukwuemeka is blind to it. He had no qualms with Steven Gerrard, Villa’s new manager, who took over from Dean Smith earlier this month. Rather, he is concerned that the club would place a greater emphasis on experienced players or new arrivals at the expense of developing young players.
