By defeating Porto at Anfield, Liverpool retained their perfect record in the Champions League this season.
After winning their first four games, Jurgen Klopp’s side had already secured top spot in Group B and a place in the knockout stages. They added three more points against the Portuguese side.
After 11 minutes, Porto were penalised for missing a great chance as Otavio side-footed wide from eight yards out with an empty goal in front of him.
Sadio Mane’s exquisite finish was ruled out by VAR for offside, as was Takumi Minamino’s strike from close range, as Liverpool thrashed Porto 5-1 in the opposite fixture in Portugal.
“Whoever sees Thiago in training knows he has the technique to do it,” Klopp added, “but even with this technique, he can’t unleash such a thunderball on a regular basis.”
“We could have done better and been more calm in the first half but we were a bit hectic. That is not unusual when you put a team out that has not played together a lot.
