Mauricio Pochettino’s goal at Paris Saint-Germain is to win the Champions League, despite speculation that he may replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Even if he wins the French title, if the Argentine fails, it may be the end of his career at PSG. If he succeeds, he may believe that his work in Paris is complete and that he can move on gratefully.
Following the resignation of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, this may be a “win-win” situation for Manchester United as they transition from caretaker to interim manager and then to a summer permanent hire.
Despite a storm of domestic dominance, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has yet to win the Champions League. Last season’s final loss to Chelsea in Porto was the most bitter reminder of that absence.
Guardiola’s position at City is as secure as he likes, barring unforeseen circumstances, which cannot be said of Pochettino in Paris.
