Wallabies Must Arrest Slide Against Wales With World Cup In Sight

When the Wallabies face Wales in Cardiff on Sunday morning, nothing but pride will be on the line, but it’s still crucial that they complete their disappointing tour to Britain with a confidence-boosting victory.

Australia cannot win after losing 15-13 to Scotland at Murrayfield and then 32-15 to England at Twickenham, but they can restore their self-esteem with a win against the Six Nations winners. And it would mean a lot to them coming into next season and the year leading up to the 2023 World Cup in France.

Returning to Australia from Britain winless would be a major setback for a Wallabies team who only a few months ago looked as if they were on the road to recovery after five long, lean years.

Following four straight wins against world champions South Africa and Argentina in the Rugby Championship, Dave Rennie’s team rose from sixth to third in the world, their lowest position ever. They went into their end-of-year tour of Japan and the United Kingdom with great anticipation, but they are already dropping to fifth place in the globe.
