Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes Charged Over The Stabbing Of His Cousin

Prosecutors in the Netherlands said on Thursday that Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes will stand trial for his alleged role in a stabbing last year. Promes was detained almost a year ago in Amsterdam in connection with the stabbing of a man in the neighboring town of Abcoude in July 2020. He was released two days later, but authorities said he was still a suspect in the crime.

Promes has always maintained that he was not involved in the incident. On Thursday, his lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Prosecutors claim Promes stabbed the victim, who is his cousin and a former Ajax and Sevilla player. Attempted manslaughter and grievous assault are among the allegations he faces.

Prosecutors say the victim survived the attack but suffered major knee injuries. According to witnesses, the event occurred during a family reunion when Promes got into a dispute with his cousin.
