“You Need To Be Quotable To Stay Relevant”: Gareth Southgate Responds To Roy Keane’s Criticism Of England Defender Harry Maguire

Gareth Southgate appears to have criticised Roy Keane’s comments on Harry Maguire’s England celebrations, claiming that certain analysts are just interested in the “next day’s headlines.”

Southgate, who previously worked as a pundit for ITV and has empathy for pundits, says he knows what it’s like to be a pundit. After scoring against Albania last week, Keane called Maguire “embarrassing” for putting his fingers in his ears.

Manchester United captain Maguire has been chastised for his recent efforts at club level. Although Keane was not happy with the centre-celebration, back’s Southgate has defended his player.

“I think we have to understand that the industry we’re in… in order to make a living you need to take different approaches. So you have a choice of which type of approach you’re going to take,” he told reporters.
