Conor Gallagher Receives First Call-Up Amid String Of England Withdrawals

Posted by

Conor Gallagher has been called up for the first time following a strong start to the season, but Gareth Southgate will be without Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Jordan Henderson, and Jack Grealish when England takes on San Marino on Monday in a bid to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

After their 5-0 win over Albania, England is nearly set to qualify for Qatar – they only need a point from their last Group I qualifier – but they will be without a number of key players in San Marino. Mount is still recovering from dental surgery, Shaw has a concussion, Henderson and Grealish have left camp due to injuries, and Sterling has gone due to a personal matter.

Southgate is set to make changes against San Marino, despite the fact that a slew of withdrawals will make rotation difficult. Before the win over Albania, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice both pulled out of the squad.
