Marcus Rashford stars in a new Aldi Christmas TV commercial based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, as the supermarket chain pledges to provide 1.8 million meals to families during the holidays.
In the animated film, the England footballer voices Marcus Radishford, an anthropomorphic root vegetable who relates the narrative of Ebanana Scrooge, an unhappy banana who despises Christmas.
Aldi’s Christmas mascot has been around for a long time. Kevin the Carrot appears again to remind the banana of the Christmas spirit. The pair meet Radishford during their tour of the Christmas delights, and at the end of the commercial, the transformed banana is spreading his own positive kindness. The narrator, actor Jim Broadbent, says at the end: “The moral of the story? The answer you’ll find … for you to be happy, you need to be kind.”
