Ross Barkley’s tenacity in refusing to give up on a long-term Chelsea future has been praised by Thomas Tuchel. In Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, Barkley earned his first Premier League start of the season, putting in a great performance that impressed Tuchel.
The situation at Stamford Bridge for former Everton and England player Barkley looked gloomy this summer when Mateo Kovacic took his number eight shirt. But the 27-year-old has refused to give up on carving out a space for himself in west London, and Tuchel believes the playmaker now deserves a lot of respect.

“He was very serious about his situation from the first day in pre-season,” said Tuchel.
“It depends on himself first of all for chances to play, and it is ongoing. He needs to stay positive and hard-working, but at the same time I am happy if he is not fully happy.
