Mikel Arteta defended his Arsenal teammates after Watford manager Claudio Ranieri accused them of disrespecting one other in the build-up to Emile Smith Rowe’s game-winning goal.
Smith Rowe scored in the second half to give the Hornets a 1-0 victory after Juraj Kucka was sent off late in the game.
Arsenal is now fifth in the Premier League heading into the international break, with the result a tense one after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty was saved in the first half.
Both Bukayo Saka and Aubameyang had the ball in the net, but both efforts were called out for offside.
After Danny Rose had kicked the ball out for teammate Ozan Tufan to receive treatment, Smith Rowe’s winner — his fifth goal in eight games – generated controversy.
