Rio Ferdinand complimented Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for ‘taking down’ Newcastle’s Callum Wilson during Saturday night’s match.
Sanchez was given a red card by referee David Coote in the 90th minute of the game when he clipped Wilson outside the box, denying him a clean goal-scoring opportunity.
Ferdinand, on the other hand, claimed the goalkeeper ‘did well’ to knock off Wilson, who would have denied Brighton a point if the game had ended 1-1.
In the 90+2 minute of the game, Sanchez was the one who tackled Wilson. As he moved around the striker, the goalkeeper came racing out and clipped him.
Coote first waved play on, but after consulting the pitch-side monitor, he decided to give the goalkeeper a red card. As a result, Brighton defender Lewis Dunk played the final five minutes of injury time in goal.
