Xavi, a former Barcelona player, has been appointed manager of the Spanish club, with a deal that runs through 2024.
The 41-year-old Spaniard has been the manager of Qatari club Al Sadd since 2019, but his release clause was reached on Friday, and he was allowed to join Barca.
Xavi’s contract will be extended for the remainder of the 2021-22 season as well as two more seasons, according to Barcelona.
He is set to return to Spain this weekend and will be introduced at the Nou Camp on Monday.
“It wasn’t farewell, it was’see you soon,'” the World Cup and two-time European Championship-winning former Spain international said in a video to fans. My home has always been the Camp Nou.
“You’re my fans, my people, the club that I love the most. And now, I’m coming home. See you soon, Culers. Forca Barca.”
