Nick Pope, The Goalkeeper For Burnley, Was Devastated To Be Left Out Of The England Squad Once More

Nick Pope of Burnley is sad to have missed out on another England call-up, but he expressed his “huge respect” for Gareth Southgate and stated that the “door is not closed.”

Southgate named his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino on Thursday, omitting Pope in favor of Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Sam Johnstone, as he did last month.

Pope, who has seven caps, had previously returned to the squad for England’s games in September after missing the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign due to knee surgery.

The 29-year-old has received praise for his recent performances, and he told a news conference on Thursday that he was “in a good place” in terms of his form ahead of Burnley’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday.

When asked about the England squad, Pope said: “I’m obviously disappointed to be left out. I was disappointed to be left out last month. But that’s not my decision, it’s the manager’s decision. It’s out of my hands.
