Cristiano Ronaldo pulled Manchester United out of another hole against Atalanta on Tuesday night, prompting Marten De Roon to make a subtle joke at CR7 on social media.
In a 2-2 tie in Bergamo, United salvaged a point when Ronaldo struck the equalizer late in the game. The Portuguese striker also scored the game’s first goal, capitalizing in the final third to put his team ahead.
Ronaldo also scored the game-winning goal in the home match between the two sides, scoring after 81 minutes to give United a 3-2 triumph.
Atalanta’s Marten De Roon, on the other hand, was less than pleased with the veteran’s performance against his team during the Champions League group stages this year. While Ronaldo was with Juventus, the two faced off in Serie A and even met in the Nations League final, where Portugal defeated the Netherlands to win the inaugural title in 2019.
On Saturday night, De Roon himself had tweeted, “Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, Marten de Roon scores,” following his stoppage-time winner for La Dea against Lazio.
After last night’s result, De Roon quoted his own tweet to add “Or bloody Ronaldo.”
