Wilfried Zaha’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in January is in doubt, with the Crystal Palace attacker reportedly pondering his international future after declining to be named in Ivory Coast’s team for the World Cup qualifiers this month.
The 28-year-old, who debuted in 2017 and has 21 caps, was left out of Patrice Beaumelle’s squad for the next matches against Mozambique and Cameroon after informing him that he would be staying in the UK.
“He asked not to come because he comes home sick after each meeting,” said Beaumelle as he unveiled his squad. “He wants to reflect on the rest of his international career.”
After playing 74 minutes in Abidjan’s triumph over Malawi, Zaha was forced to miss Palace’s tie with Arsenal last month due to sickness. He made his comeback against Newcastle and then scored in Palace’s win against Manchester City on Saturday.
He and roughly 40 other Premier League players are expected to compete in the Afcon in Cameroon in January.
