Barcelona won a crucial match against Dynamo Kyiv to move into second place in Group E of the Champions League. After Oscar Mingueza’s right-wing cross bounced into his path, Ansu Fati scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute with a powerful effort from 10 yards.
When the game was scoreless, Kyiv had several good chances to score, but Mykola Shaparenko twice missed the target from close range.
Barca has advanced to the last 16 in each of the last 17 seasons, and a win over Benfica at home on November 23 will ensure their position in the knockout stages. If the Spanish team loses, they will have to win at home against already-qualified Bayern Munich and hope Benfica loses to Kyiv on matchday six.
Barcelona was awarded a penalty when the game was scoreless when Fati was brought down by a challenge, but the judgment was overturned after a visual assistant referee (VAR) review. Minutes later, the 19-year-old forward was celebrating after scoring the game-winning goal.
Late on, Kyiv had a chance to equalize, but visiting goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen saved Victor Tsygankov’s curling shot with a fine one-handed stop.
