Thomas Tuchel has expressed his admiration for Andreas Christensen, whose future at Chelsea is uncertain following a stalemate in contract negotiations.
Christensen’s current contract expires at the end of the season, and talks with the 25-year-old, who will be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with international clubs starting in January, have come to a halt. Chelsea has offered the Denmark international a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year, but the two sides have not communicated since August.
There is, however, hope that Christensen’s future will be addressed. Under Frank Lampard’s tutelage, the centre-back struggled, but he has now blossomed into an important player of Tuchel’s squad.
“I think it is important we accept the personality of every player,” Tuchel said. “Some are more loud, some aggressive, some more calm. He’s a calm guy, very intelligent player, and sometimes you can get maybe a bit misled by judging him from his personality, because he is a hard defender and he is a guy who is not shy to have hard tackles and win challenges and step up in games. He found his place.
