The Pundits’ Verdict On Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Future

Posted by

Following their catastrophic 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces the most difficult phase of his Manchester United tenure thus far, with calls for his firing increasing.

The Norwegian has experienced pressure before, but nothing like this, as his club was put to the test in their most important match of the season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side storming into a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Pundits have been speculating about Solskjaer’s future throughout the season, with United experiencing a string of dismal results before to their thrashing at the hands of Liverpool.

Gary Neville: Stay

Having played alongside Solskjaer, Neville has not been hesitant to criticize the Norwegian this season, but has refrained from calling for his dismissal, stating that he will never demand that any manager be fired.

Before the thumping by Liverpool, Neville was certain that he would not succumb to fan pressure and claim that Solskjaer deserved to be fired.

Jamie Carragher: Go

In the build-up to the encounter with his old side, Carragher had some harsh words for Solskjaer, suggesting United needed a ‘better manager,’ but the Norwegian dismissed it as mind tricks to help his beloved Reds win.

However, after the 5-0 defeat, Carragher argued with Neville over Solskjaer and reaffirmed his belief that, although admiring his work thus far, Solskjaer was ‘not good enough’ for the Manchester United position.
