Dele Alli’s place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans has been jeopardized, with the midfielder expected to be left out of the team for Wednesday’s match against Burnley.
Alli is not injured, and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to blame his absence on the fact that he has rotated his team for the club’s European and cup games this season.
Nonetheless, the decision raises questions about Alli’s future involvement in the Portuguese coach’s plans, especially because the midfielder has only played a minor role in recent weeks.
Alli was an important player for Nuno in the early weeks of his rule, starting the first six Premier League games and even scoring the game-winning goal against Wolves.
However, the 25-year-old was replaced at halftime of Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham in the north London derby on September 26 and hasn’t played a minute of top-flight football since.
