Andy Murray Perseveres In His Marathon Battle With Hubert Hurkacz

Andy Murray’s unwavering dedication has always been one of his strongest and most constant attributes throughout his illustrious career. However, no challenge has put it to the test quite like his current health issues — so many great players would have been defeated in comparable circumstances.

He’s still here, he’s still playing against the top players in the world, and he’s still improving every day. Murray earned one of his biggest wins in recent years on Monday night, defeating Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, an ATP 500 event. It’s his first top ten win since August of last year, and only his second since he was named number one in 2017.

Regardless of how meaningful the triumph is to him, something like this has been on the cards for a while. Murray has made apparent, continuous development with each match over the past few months of regular competition after dealing with numerous injury niggles earlier this year, but he has remained disappointed by a string of tight losses against top 20 players.
