‘They Are In The Second Team For A Reason’: Chris Sutton Slams Tottenham’s Fringe Flops For Not Doing Enough

After a collective terrible performance in their defeat against Vitesse Arnhem, Chris Sutton believes Tottenham’s players on the verge of breaking into the first squad have shown nothing to merit a recall.

Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo made 11 changes from the team that beat Newcastle 3-2 on Sunday, leaving players like as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at home for the Europa Conference League match.

But, in a dreadful performance in which Spurs never seemed in command, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Steven Bergwijn, and Giovani Lo Celso all failed to impress as Nuno’s team were defeated 1-0 in the group stage by a Max Vittek goal 12 minutes from time.

Nuno’s current favorite XI would have vindicated him after the game, according to Sutton, and a Spurs side in transition would be concerned about their lack of depth.

‘They are in the second team for a reason. Tonight was an opportunity to have the right attitude, their talent did not shine through’, Sportsmail columnist Sutton told BT Sport.

‘Nuno will say this is vindication why you are here and not at home. How many players did enough to change the boss’ opinion?
