Following Newcastle’s recent ownership, Porto striker Luis Diaz might be one of the club’s first big-money signings.
According to SPORT TV in Portugal, the Magpies are willing to meet the Colombian international’s €80 million (£67.5 million) release clause in his contract during the January transfer window. Diaz, 24, has 11 goals in 20 games for both club and country in all competitions so far this season, and Newcastle could now look to him to spark their campaign.
Newcastle is now without a manager after sacking Steve Bruce earlier this week, and they are currently ranked 19th in the Premier League rankings.
In a caretaker role, Graeme Jones will lead the team against Crystal Palace on Saturday, despite suggestions that Paulo Fonseca could be in line to replace Bruce on a permanent basis soon.
