Novak Djokovic’s Participation In The Australian Open Is In Jeopardy Due To His Failure To Declare His Vaccination Status

If Novak Djokovic and other tennis stars are unvaccinated or refuse to declare their vaccination status, the federal immigration minister has stated that they will not be granted special permission to enter Australia.

When asked if he had a message for Djokovic on ABC radio on Wednesday morning, Alex Hawke emphasized that anyone entering the nation must be double-vaccinated.

“The government in establishing its borders has said that you will need to be double vaccinated to visit Australia, that’s a universal application, not just for tennis players,” Hawke said.

Asked if he could see any workaround for the Australian Open, Hawke said “not at this time”.

“Our health advice is that when we open the borders everyone that comes to Australia will need to be double vaccinated, I don’t have a message for [Djokovic], I have a message to everybody who wishes to visit Australia – you will need to be double vaccinated.”
