At the Estadio Algarve, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to lead Portugal to a resounding World Cup qualification victory over Luxembourg. Portugal is now second in Group A, one point behind Serbia, whom they will host in their final match.
Ronaldo scored his 58th hat-trick for club and country by converting two penalties and completing the scoring with a header. The other goals were scored by Bruno Fernandes and Joao Palhinha.
Within 18 minutes, Fernandes sent a low shot into the bottom-right corner to put the hosts 3-0 up.
All the attention, however, will rightfully go to his Manchester United teammate, who now has 115 international goals.
Last month, the 36-year-old broke Iran striker Ali Daei’s 109-goal mark.
In their penultimate Group A match before facing Serbia, Portugal visits the Republic of Ireland.
