In The Women’s Super League, A Late Goal Flurry Results In A Manchester Derby Draw

Manchester United and Manchester City shared the points in a 2-2 draw in the Manchester derby, ending City’s run of defeats in the Women’s Super League.

Gareth Taylor’s side were looking to snap a three-game losing streak, but they were once again guilty of missed opportunities and significant early chances. Georgia Stanway was issued a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Leah Galton, escalating the situation (35).

Man City took the lead three minutes later when Khadija Shaw (38) nodded home a magnificent Demi Stokes cross, despite United having only one effort in the first half.

United appeared to be out of luck at first, but they took a fast lead midway through the second half. After a quick corner, Lucy Staniforth (72) flicked home, and Alessia Russo shot past Karima Taieb (75) to put the hosts ahead.

It didn’t last long, though, as Ellen White scored in the 79th minute following another great Mary Earps save, resulting in a 2-2 tie at Leigh Sports Village, exactly as they did last season in the same match.
