The Saudi-led consortium pulled out of the deal in July 2020 when the Premier League named the Saudi state as a director with influence over the club, making it subject to the league’s owners’ and directors’ test throughout the takeover process.
The Saudi government, on the other hand, eliminated a major roadblock to the takeover when it settled its dispute with beIN Sports over unlawful Premier League football streaming on Wednesday.
Due to a diplomatic dispute, the Qatari network beIN has been unable to broadcast in Saudi Arabia for the past four and a half years, but the embargo is expected to end soon.
The station had fought the Newcastle takeover, claiming that the content ban and piracy were harming sports rights holders.
