ManU Hand Assistant Mgr Mike Phelan A New Contract Until 2024 In A Major Show Of Support For Under-Fire Boss Ole Gunnar

Mike Phelan, Manchester United’s assistant manager, has been given a new contract, demonstrating the club’s continued support for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to Sportsmail, the Norwegian No 2’s current contract, which was set to expire next year, has been extended until 2024.

That period corresponds to the term of Solskjaer’s new contract, which he signed in July, and will be seen as more support for the manager, who has presided over a faltering start to United’s season despite a hefty summer investment. The Premier League giants have now lost four of their previous seven games in all competitions, following Saturday’s depressing 1-1 draw with Everton.

Despite sharing third place in the table with City, painful losses at home to Aston Villa in the league and West Ham in the EFL Cup, as well as in the Champions League to Swiss minnows Young Boys, have increased the pressure on Solskjaer ahead of the international break.

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the summer’s additions, stormed down the tunnel after the draw with the Toffees, a gesture that attracted condemnation from ex-United defender Gary Neville.
